An 18-year-old driver who took the meaning of "tea time" too seriously is facing charges after being busted for alleged intoxicated driving during a stop in Stafford County, according to the sheriff's office.

Stafford native Logan Hearns was caught with a graveyard of "Twisted Tea" cans, as well as several unopened beverages following what started as a routine traffic stop of a swerving driver.

According to a spokesperson from the Stafford County Sheriff's Office, shortly after 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 24, a deputy on patrol near the intersection of Richmond Highway and Port Aquia Drive spotted a Ford pick-up losing control and fishtailing into the roadway.

The driver - later identified as Hearns - sped away, passing vehicles in multiple lanes while his exhaust "could be heard from a great distance away," prompting the subsequent stop.

During that stop - which took longer than expected when the 18-year-old attempted to pass off a debit card as a driver's license - the deputy said that he noted "several obvious signs of intoxication, including the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from the driver’s breath," and found "an excessive amount of Twisted Tea cans in plain view.'

Hearns proceeded to fail Standardized Field Sobriety Tests, and a search of the vehicle led to the discovery of additional cans of hard iced tea.

The driver was charged with driving under the influence, driving after illegally consuming alcohol, unlawful possession of alcohol, reckless driving, failure to maintain control of a vehicle, failure to maintain the lane of travel, and excessive exhaust.
